I could talk a lot about AI because I have many thoughts. 😀AI has a huge impact on creativity and the younger generation. A few days ago, I came across a post from a writer who announced that she’s planning to write twelve novels this year. Twelve. I’m sorry, but are you kidding me?
I have no respect for this kind of quantity-over-quality mindset. I can barely find time to read that many books in a year, let alone write them. And frankly, we don’t need more books. We need better ones. The real joy of writing isn’t in churning out content at lightning speed; it’s in crafting a story from nothing, and building it patiently, one sentence at a time.
I'm reading If Two Are Dead by Rick Mofina.
I hope you're enjoying the long weekend, despite the heat.
Happy to hear you’re enjoying your visit. Great list of recommendations several of which are on my list.
I have an ARC of Hot Wax and loved Graveyard Shift!
If you read The Atlantic article about the ChatGPT book rec fiasco, you might have seen a shout out to my library!
“(A librarian at the Park Ridge Public Library accessed an archive for us and confirmed that Buscaglia had worked for the paper.)”
When the journalist from The Atlantic called to confirm Mr. Buscaglia’s mention of working for a Park Ridge newspaper 30 years ago, no one had mentioned him as the “author” of the list yet. So I had no idea there was a connection. Damon Beres, the journalist, was very polite on the phone. Bonus for fact checking! Lol
If anyone wants to see the Atlantic article, let me know. It’s usually paywalled but I have a pdf. brancrisp at gmail
This week’s list:
Drop Dead Sisters by Amelia Coombs
L.A. Coroner: Thomas Noguchi and Death in Hollywood by Anne Soon Choi
Puzzle Me A Murder by Rosalind Noonan
Queen B (Her Majesty’s Royal Coven #0.5) by Juno Dawson
We’ll Prescribe You a Cat by Syou Ishida with Emmie Madison Shimoda
The Wishing Pool and Other Stories by Tananarive Due
Glad you made it to see your parents!! Yesterday was the last day of school and I’m off until the beginning of August. YAY!! I did my most fav thing today I went to a bookstore. I also did AA other fav thing a little day drinking. Home for a nap and started a new read, Jesmyn Ward’s Where The Line Bleeds. Next up is bar number 2!
I'm glad you are at your parents' new house and that it already has good memories attached to it. What small tender mercy after them leaving your childhood home. Congrats again on your last book in the Thorne series.
I, too, have good memories at my grandparents' house but they lived in southern California. I remember spending hours in their pool/spa (or as us Coloradoans call it-hot tub) playing mermaid, going to the beach where my grandma taught me to body surf, and to the library. Across from their house was a Thrifty's where you could and still can get an ice cream cone. Back then it was 25 cents. I miss them and Carlsbad so much. No one from the fam lives in their house but I hope it has as much love now as it did then.
I just started CARELESS PEOPLE by Sarah Wynn-Williams and so far, it's good. It feels more like narrative non-fiction about her time at Facebook, which I enjoy.
I hope you arrive home healthy and hopefully rested. Have a glorious Memorial Weekend.
Glad you made it to FL to see your parents. Childhood memories are the best! My husband and I try really hard to create fun memories with our grandkids...just for this reason.
Funny that FL is having record high temps. It's been unreasonably cool here in southeast Nebraska.
I agree that AI has many uses, but creative pursuits is not one of them!
This week I read FOUR WEEKENDS AND A FUNERAL by Ellie Palmer. New to me author and it was cute.
I also read THE LOVE HATERS by Katherine Center....such a good book. I love all of her books!
I started THE SCROLLS OF TIME yesterday. Excited to see how the series wraps up.
Everyone have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
I agree with JT. I don't have grandkids yet, and I'm probably not close but I'm going to steal your reason for good memories. I loved my Mother's parent exactly for that reason and because they made me feel loved/special.

I love it!!! I’d like to read that article—can you send me the pdf? Yay for your library!
What a fun list—all new to me authors. Thank you!!!
Sent!
Also I really enjoyed Listen For The Lie such clever storytelling. And I’m looking forward to hearing your thought on The Return of Ellie Jean.
It was so great! I’m kind of jealous. Lol
I have read all your words you have no need to be jealous!!
But it’s sooooo cleverrrrrrr

What a lovely memory! SoCal much have been incredible back then. And pools and the sea — magical for kids.
I have to finish that book. It’s fascinating.
Thank you so much for reading! Really hope you enjoy it (and I'm sure you'll love Olivie, her style is so unique).
Sooo unique. I love it. And I know I’ll love HOT WAX!!!

Just from the few mentions you’ve made, Amy, I know your grandkids are going to look back so fondly. Love that you’re young enough to enjoy them, too!
Love the idea of cute—will put the Palmer on my list!
That AI list was utterly ridiculous.
SO ridiculous.
