I'm baack!!! I enjoyed Colorado, but we haven't been home except for a wedding and several family health emergencies since we left in late 2020. It was wonderful to see all our family and friends, but I'm exhausted. Very glad to be back in Texas in my own bed, but awwww the mountains. I drove through a torrential downpour on the way home and hydroplaned more than a few times, so I was glad to pull into our driveway. A Colorado rainstorm is nothing to a Texas downpour, and my heart goes out to all those affected by the flooding.

My oldest is head lifeguard at her job and has been a lifeguard for six years now. When she's home she lifeguards her siblings at our pool and drives them crazy. So, I can imagine the grins and chuckling from your husband.

I didn't get the chance to read much so nothing to comment there.

Rachael! I was about to send out a search party. Hope the woods treated you well! I miss my summer trip to Colorado very much - it was especially hard to miss this year. I’m so glad you had fun!🤩

I understand the feeling of not being able to visit Colorado, especially that first year. I found it physically painful. Complete with a pang in my heart. So sorry!

Currently reading: VULTURES by Mark Dawson. Before that, I read the first two books in Taylor Moore’s Garrett Kohl series (DOWN RANGE and FIRESTORM).

In 6th grade, we all gathered around a wheeled-in TV to watch a space shuttle launch, too. Unfortunately, it was the Challenger. 😟

I was listening to that on one the radio in the parking lot of my junior high. 😭

I’ve just read Bury our Bones in Midnight Soil. What a bold story to write. Explaining lore I was wondering about, I mean, bold. And one story in sight and one between the lines, so the ending was sooo good.

After that wonderful book I read the Knight and the Moth. No words. JT do you have any influence to let her write a sequel? I will eat every word she writes.

Now reading Sign Here. It’s a good distraction. Like it.

After that I will start book 1 The Shepherd King by Rachel Gillig.

Preordered you, Lisa Gardner, Lisa Regan and Karen Slaughter. Wow, good times are coming (as long as I stay inside, don’t watch news and just read).

Love your letter (my mom owned a liquor store and you made me think about the fun we had, me and my friends in the summer).

Nicole, I agree completely --BURY OUR BONES *IS* bold! A really wonderful book.

I do believe that there's a sequel to Knight... there better be. I LOVEd it!

We are getting a lot of great books this summer, aren't we??? And I bet you have some GTREAT stories...

Illicit beer run made me giggle. The liquor store in the town my dad lives in totally sold me and many others beer when we weren’t quite 21.. I need to get caught up on Megan Miranda’s books.. I think I’m one behind. She’s been a fav summer read for me the last few years. I’m currently reading an arc of Lori Rader-Day’s Wreck Your Heart. So so good.

Megan’s is great. Really enjoying it! I’m a little older than you—legal was 18 for our senior class and was changed to 21 so half of us were grandfathered in.

I just finished Don't Let Him In by Lisa Jewell, and I didn’t love it as much as her other books. The premise was so promising, and so was the beginning, but the story became repetitive as it went on. Midway through, the main female characters were all acting delusional, which was frustrating.Honestly, I was disappointed. But I’m excited to read Atmosphere and The Woman in Cabin 11. 🤗🤍

I'm telling you there is nothing more difficult than an homage story. This is her Ripley, like HER DARK LIES is my Rebecca. To reinvent while also blazing new ground is hard.

Atmosphere is really great.

I also grabbed Gregg's new book. My coworkers and I read a lot of true crime. Hope you love Forget Me Not. I just finished Listen For The Lie this morning on the train, and it was so good. I now know why my coworkers are always recommending it.

You can get a free Slurpee today 7/11 at 7-Eleven stores!

Here is this week's list:

The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

A Drop Of Corruption by Robert Jackson

The Exorcism at 1600 Penn by Hannah Rose May

The Good Bride by Jen Marie Wiggins

A Poisoner's Tale by Cathryn Kemp

Zero Saints by Gabino Iglesias

Fabulous list of titles this week, B! And I LOL'd about the Slurpees!

Listen for the Lie was spectacular. I'm not usually a fan of the memory loss trope, but this was perfectly done.

Hope it's not too hot -- or flooded-- your way this weekend!

I was also reading No Rest for the Wicked by Rachel Louise Adams at the same time, which I also loved, and that included memory loss, too. They were an interesting companion read. As much as I loved No Rest, it does include flashbacks that are revealed slowly via different viewpoints of an assault.

Speaking of high school...my 40th class reunion is this month. I went to a huge school and I graduated with 500 kids. I'm not going to it, even though its only 1 hour away. I was quiet/shy in high school and it was just something to get through...

Two of my granddaughters are lifeguards and they LOVE it!

I read LAST SEEN and it was fantastic! I loved the little Easter Eggs sprinkled throughout. Plus you kept me guessing, which is sometimes hard to do with me...lol

I'm about halfway through FALLING INTO YOU by Kerry Lonsdale and it is excellent!

I must have missed the new Janelle Brown book. I like her and will have to get her new one.

We survived having our 5 and 8 year old grandkids here for 10 days. All 3 of my husband's sons we here over the 4th of July and all of the grandkids were here except for the oldest 2 who have big boy jobs. It's getting harder to get everyone together....especially when 2 of my step sons live out of state. We just cherish the time we have!

My heart just hurts about the horrible flooding and lose of life in TX. I grew up in Omaha and the Missouri river is right on top of downtown. We lived way out west ftom the river but we were raised to have a healthy respect for it. Mother Nature is always in control not matter what us mere humans think.

The flooding is beyond heartbreaking. It gives me flood PTSD, and to know so many people were swept away just makes me so sad. It's both sad and fascinating how inured to tragedy we've all become.

I'm so happy to hear you liked LAST SEEN! It's always so scary to have a new book out. Relieved as heck.

Have so much fun with your grands!

Last Seen is on my TBR! I just finished reading a true crime book called The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy. It was sad and horrifying, but definitely eye-opening.
