June is a great book month this year! So many I’m looking forward to. I’m great full April Erin knew that June Erin wouldn’t be able to buy many books and preordered several in Indie Boostore day. That means I’m reading the incredible Rachel Howzell Hall’s What Fire Brings this weekend!
I just finished “The Wife Between Us” by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. It was hard to put down. I’m back to Lisa Unger with “Ink and Bone”. I need to find something a little lighter to balance out the dark stuff, though.
Oh, great choices all the way around. I read fantasy to break up the dark thrillers, but for lighter stuff, I've also been turning back the clock and looking at some of the earlier mysteries. I currently have A KISS BEFORE DYING, PEYTON PLACE, and VALLEY OF THE DOLLS.
I tend to turn to rom-coms or memoir-ish stuff to keep it a little lighter, but we seem to be back in a golden age of fantasy books. Maybe I will dip my toe in :).
I enjoyed reading Oliver Burkeman's Four Thousand Weeks. The approach to do certain tasks but to do them whenever I like works best for me. My days are rarely the same, except for my morning meditation session. ~ I also read your newsletter and am so happy that you had a fabulous time in NYC. And can't wait to read your 'pink' upcoming novel.🤗🤗
It’s a different approach, isn’t it? My days *should* always be the same but that doesn’t seem to ever be the case. Chaos calendering, not the best method. Be able to do the 3:3:3 yesterday needed almost 3000 words and a ton of tasks. Maybe I just need to stop procrastinating LOL
About to go for my morning meditation in the garden…
I read an old book by Lisa Jackson, MALICE. My sweet daughter picked up a paperback for me and was so excited to give it to me. It was the only one I read as I attended Inkers Con last weekend here in Plano. (Still playing catch up.) Most of the writers wrote in the romance category, but man do they know their business. It's mostly an Indie conference, but they have craft down really well, along with the business. One of the best learning conferences I've attended. Plus my writing buddy flew in from Wisconsin to attend it with me. We talked a lot about all things writing and life and could've spent another three days together.
It sounds like you had a great time at Thrillerfest too. Here's wishing you great luck for your crazy 2025 deadline. You've got this!! And Happy Father's Day to all.
Oh, I’m so glad you went! It’s always wonderful to hear from seasoned authors how they’re making their way in this crazy environment. And your daughter is a doll for finding you MALICE!
My TBR pile is out of control (like most of us)...New books that I pre-ordered keep popping up on my Kindle!
This week I read THE ROM-COMMERS by Katherine Center. I really enjoy this author and this was an excellent book with all the feels...little sad, lots of funny and ultimately some romance.
Also read 2 books by Alisha Klapheke. Funny you mentioned her in your newsletter and I was just finishing her book! Read BOUND IN DRAGONS and KINGDOM OF SPIRITS. They do give me a FOURTH WING vibe...maybe not quite as good, but still a good read.
I'm about 25% into THE LAST DAYS OF THE MIDNIGHT RAMBLERS by Sarah Tomlinson. Definitely reminds me of DAISY JONES and THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO....which are 2 books I absolutely LOVED!!!
What a list! Yes, this dragon series Alisha’s got running is very Fourth Wing - esque, but she’s been writing it for a while now, predating Yarros. Super talented writer! And wow, anything Daisy Jones and I’m all perked up!
It has been such a busy time! I love this 3:3:3 idea, I'm going to check it out!
And I love listening to library books!

I can't wait to hear if you love it - let me know! Hope the kids were well-behaved this week, too!
The kids were super intense this week. We got an amazing first week and then they were all done playing nice. 😂😂😂

This week's list:
Come With Me by Ronald Malfi
Malas by Marcela Fuentes
The Memorist by M.J. Rose
Old Soul by Susan Barker
This Wretched Valley by Jenny Kiefer
Wretched Waterpark by Kiersten White
Two Wretcheds! I loved that book by MJ. It’s been a while but I recall it being lush and beautiful. I’m excited for the birding book this weekend!!!
I love everything MJ writes! I couldn't resist doing both Wretcheds at once LOL
It’s an interesting word choice for a title too. Like Hopeless. Telegraphing the contents… but not. LOL
It's a very Kiersten word choice. Looking forward to hers as a lighter MG read.

I know... have been procrastinating too much lately.🙈🙈🙈
It’s summer…. I stick by that as an excuse. :)

Sounds like a great conference. It's always so invigorating to get back from an inspiring event. Happy writing!😊😊

I just finished reading a lovely novel by T Greenwood, Keeping Lucy, and a memoir, Queering the American Dream.
Sounds great, Jennifer! Both are new to me!
Keeping Lucy is at #1 today on Amazon--just saw that!
It looks so good but also so sad.
Plenty of action and humor too. And an important look at how far we've come in our treatment of kids with DS.
