This week’s list:

Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber

Anima Rising by Christopher Moore

The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins

Drop Dead Sisters by Amelia Coombs

L.A. Coroner: Thomas Noguchi and Death in Hollywood by Anne Soon Choi

Signal to Noise by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I have to say the typeface and set of L.A. Coroner is making it very hard to read. I swear the book is left and right justified in a tiny, boxy san serif font. I showed to my coworkers and they agreed which me feel slightly better. I just finished Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher this afternoon and adored it!

Another good list Brandee! I hear what you’re saying about that small print. I have issues with it too.

I just started reading, The Memory Collectors, by Dete Meserve. This is my first book by this author, and I can already tell that I have found a new favorite!

I love discovering new authors!! Your tbr pile sounds amazing. I’m on my last day of dog/chicken sitting in Florida. I’ve been on a reading roll this week. After The Thrill is Gone by Walter Mosley, Blackbird and Butcher by Brynne Weaver, Assassin’s Anonymous by Rob Hart and two great short stories Small Things by Wanda Morris and Louche 49. Currently reading No Man’s Ghost by Jason Powell.

What a great reading week, Erin! You need to chicken.dog sit more often. I hope it’s been restful all the way around.

I'm finishing The Knight and the Moth now! I like it more than The Shepherd King duology.

I just pulled the plug and bought THE KNIGHT AND THE MOTH. While doing so, I realized that I had read THE SHEPHERD KING duology by the author. I remember liking the first book better than the second.

I'm looking forward to this new book.

Good to know… yes, this is obviously an author elevating her craft… SO good. I have saved the last few chapters because I don’t want it to end!

I love that you have found a new author, and I hope you get a chance to read more books this weekend. I, too, enjoy humor in books when it is done right, especially when the real world is hard.

I'm in the early stages of reading HIDDEN PICTURES by Jason Rekulak because my youngest asked me to read it so we can discuss it. I won't be reading it at night or while my hubby is traveling for work as it's a horror novel about a recently out of rehab babysitter and the creepy five-year-old she watches. I've seen a lot of buzz for it, and I'm hoping that it's light on the horror, but I'm not holding my breath. True confession-I'm the scaredy cat in the family. I refuse to watch any super scary or horror shows with the fam as I'm simpatico with JT and don't want nightmares. My kids find it funny. Me not so much. So, if you don't hear from me next Friday, it's because my heart couldn't take the creepiness of the book. Hope y'all have a fabulous weekend and stay dry. We're only getting two days without rain and then the forecast indicates we will have rain for a week. No complaints here as it is keeping us in the high eighties instead of the mid to low nineties.

Hidden Pictures was good, but definitely creepy. I find realistic and psychological horror much scarier than monsters and paranormal creature horror. It was also a strange book. Looking forward to The Last One At The Wedding by the same author.

Thanks for the insight. Hopefully, I'll make it through the entire book. I really want to show up and connect with my youngest by reading together.

I just read your magic word—rain—and it started raining here. THANK YOU! It’s too hot.

I wish you luck with the scary book. It’s just not fun for me, I don’t like to be scared like that. I so admire people who LOVE them!

The Perfect Nanny was so good, but it was based on a true story. Recently I discovered the Kørner/Werner series by Katrine Engberg. It features two Copenhagen police detectives whose last names happen to rhyme! My first foray into Nordic noir.

It’s the nanny in New York, right? So sad.

I LOVE discovering new authors!

THE KNIGHTS AND THE MOTH sounds just up my alley...bathos and all...lol

I re-read DARK LOVER by JR Ward in preparation of the series that just dropped on Passionflix. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but I may be one of the few who didn't...so many people were on Passionflix, that it crashed...good problem!

I'm almost done with ATMOSPHERE by TJR...I so wanted to stay up late to finish it but I was good and went to bed. It's such an interesting story and of course its a wonderful love story. It's set before the spaceshuttle Challenger tragedy (which i remember vividly as i was a freshman in college and just happened to be watching TV before class). My brother is an aerospace engineer and worked in the later spaceshuttle program for several years....so its a very nostalgic time period for me.

I totally forgot to include what I read the week before:

HIDDEN NATURE by the fabulous Nora Roberts. How does she keep coming up with new/unique ideas? Loved it!

I also read THE SCROLLS OF TIME. What a great ending to the series!

We have our first wedding of the season tomorrow and its going to be a large wedding. At least the reception is at our nephews place...a whopping 2 miles away!

Yay for wedding season! That’s so much fun. And also, yay for aerospace engineers. My whole family is Lockheed Martin alums…me too! Rockets and shuttles, unite!

I want Nora’s brain. That is for sure. When you watch tell me if I should read them first or if I can jump in…
